Las Vegas Hospitality Workers Prepared to Strike in February

January 15, 2024

The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 in Las Vegas have announced that more than 7,000 hospitality workers are prepared to strike in early February if no deal is reached, The Washington Times reports.

While the unions reached a five-year agreement with Caesars Entertainment Inc., MGM Resorts International, and Wynn Las Vegas in November 2023, there are still hospitality workers without new contracts for Las Vegas properties including Circus Circus Hotel & Casino, SAHARA Las Vegas, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino. Those without contracts are hoping to get similar deals as those who reached agreements last November, which included a 32% pay increase and a reduction in workload.

The tentative February 2 strike date would come a little more than a week before Super Bowl LVIII, which will be taking place in Las Vegas for the first time in the event’s history.

According to The Times, if the union workers do walk off the job, despite previous threats, it will be the first actual strike by hospitality employees in Las Vegas history.
