March 12, 2018

More than 10 years after the 2007 recession, the job market has grown substantially in some states, like Texas, but has faltered in other states, like Alabama, which had 62,637 fewer jobs in 2017 than in 2007.

The United States, as a whole, had 6.6 million more jobs in 2017 compared to 2007, CareerBuilder reports. However, some states have recovered faster than others. Seven states that had fewer jobs 10 year after the recession include Alabama, West Virginia, Mississippi, New Mexico, Connecticut, Wyoming, and Illinois. States that experienced the most job growth post- recession include Texas, California, New York, Florida, Washington, Colorado, and Massachusetts.

Occupations that have grown the most since 2007 include landscaping and grounds keeping, which had 110,037 more jobs in 2017 than 2007, a 9 percent increase.
