Website Reveals the Real-Time Quality of Your Area’s Air

April 11, 2023

Curious about the quality of the air outside your facility? There’s a quick and easy way to find out.

The website AirNow.com, a service of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its various partners, will tell you the Air Quality Index (AQI) of locations within the United States. It also provides data on areas throughout the world.

By using the AirNow site, you’ll find:

  • Current and forecast air quality maps and data for more than 500 cities across the U.S.
  • Current and historical data for U.S. embassies and consulates around the world
  • Current fire conditions, including fire locations, smoke plumes, and air quality data from permanent and temporary air quality monitors
  • Air quality data for Canada and Mexico
  • Alert emails, apps, widgets, and an application programming interface (API) that can be used for your own website
  • Health and air quality information for the public, health care professionals, weathercasters, teachers, and students.

To use the website and access data, simply use the search box on its home page to enter a zip code, city, or state. From that point on, AirNow will remember your location and will show you a color-coded dial that will reveal the local AQI updated for the most recent hour.
