What Does the Future Hold for Mass Gatherings?

May 18, 2021

Mass gatherings and events hosted in stadiums, convention centers, and other large capacity facilities and venues have suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to face ongoing challenges.

In a recent episode of GBACtv, a new webcast series produced by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, and ISSA Media, a panel of experts from the events and venue industry grade the COVID-19 response and discuss challenges that emerged during the pandemic. They discuss the status of events and forecast what they see for the future of mass gatherings.

Is large-scale testing of attendees a viable solution? What about designating vaccinated and unvaccinated sections in stadiums or convention centers? Are “vaccine passports” worth considering? What behind-the-scenes actions by events mangers protect attendees? How does improving indoor air quality protect those who enter buildings?

You will hear responses on these questions and topics from:

  • David DuBois, president and CEO of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events
  • Mark Herrera, director of education and life safety at the International Association of Venue Managers
  • Rick Simon, president and CEO of the United Service Companies.
