Window Washers Appear as Superheroes at Rhode Island Children’s Hospital

October 23, 2023

According to WJAR-TV, window washers at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, last week wore superhero costumes as they worked to surprise and entertain the young patients.

Dave Cotter, the owner of Fish Window Cleaning, told WJAR dressing up was a way for his employees to bring smiles to the children’s faces during a difficult time in their lives.

Shady Reyes, clinical manager of the pediatric intensive care unit, told the children to expect a surprise outside the hospital’s window at 10 a.m. last Thursday. Reyes said the children were “super excited” to discover the two window washers, dressed as The Flash and Spider-Man.

Reyes stressed the importance of supporting the emotions of children patients. “Supporting their emotions and mental health is an extremely important part of healing, and so, as important as it is to deal with the medical, it is as well to do with the emotional side of it,” she told WJAR.

“Being in the hospital is never easy for any child or their parents,” Reyes continued. “So, things like this get to bring joy and happiness to our kids and bring smiles to their faces, and it allows them to forget for a brief second where they are and the stressful situation they’re in, and just be kids.”
