Custodian Wins Full Scholarship in Vaccination Raffle

September 27, 2021

A young custodian working at Greenbrier West High School in Charmco, West Virginia, received a four-year full scholarship to any public college or university in the state in a sweepstakes for state residents who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, WV News reports.

Earlier this month, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice and his pet bulldog, Babydog, visited Waylon Gilkeson at the school to present him with the scholarship, which includes room and board, tuition, and books. The raffle prize is valued at over US$100,000.

After being inspired by the teachers at the school where he cleans, Gilkeson said he plans to use the scholarship to become an educator himself.

The custodian is one of numerous West Virginia residents to win scholarships, new cars, gasoline for 10 years, and other prizes in the “Do it for Babydog” sweepstakes open to all residents who have received at least one vaccination against COVID-19. The second round of the raffle drawings goes through October 7.
