Flu Season Setting Records

As the number of flu cases continues to rise, the season is setting a new record in patient deaths, CNN reports.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 27 children have died of the flu so far this season, which is the highest number of child flu deaths at this point in the season since the CDC began keeping records 17 years ago.

Infectious disease officials said this flu season is looking to be one of the worst in decades. It is on track to be as severe as the 2017-2018 season, which was the deadliest in more than four decades. At least 6.4 million flu illnesses have been reported since the end of December, leading to about 55,000 hospitalizations and at least 2,900 deaths.

Officials said it is possible the rise in flu activity could reverse itself, resulting in a less severe season. But no reverse is in view yet, so check out this video with cleaning tips to help eliminate flu germs.
