Hotel Housekeepers Being Paid to Receive COVID-19 Vaccines

March 9, 2021

When encouraging their workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, some employers are using paid time off as a motivation. The Marriott hotel chain announced last week it will begin issuing four hours of pay to all employees, including housekeepers, who get a vaccine, The Hill reports.

The paid benefit will extend to all Marriott employees based in the United States and Canada. Not only will workers gain paid time off to receive the injection, they also will receive education on the vaccine through the hotel chain’s new Vaccination Care Program.

Marriott officials are hopeful as more people become vaccinated the hospitality industry will begin to recover from financial hardships. According to the U.S. Travel Association the hospitality industry lost more than 50% of its workforce due to the pandemic.

Other companies offering its frontline workers paid time off to receive COVID-19 vaccinations include Wells Fargo, Trader Joe’s, and Instacart.
