International Infection Prevention Week 2022 Begins

October 17, 2022

Having started on October 16 and continuing through October 22, International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) is an opportunity to focus more specifically on how to keep your facility safer through the prevention of infectious illnesses.

Established in 1986, IIPW’s theme for 2022 is The Future is Infection Prevention: 50 Years of Infection Prevention. The theme highlights decades-long role of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) in infection prevention, with a hope to inspire the next generation of infection preventionists to continue the fight against infectious diseases. Such illnesses, to name a few, include COVID-19 and its related strains, measles, flu, and monkeypox.

To help you use this week to promote your own initiatives, the IIPW website has several resources, including a promotion toolkit, that you can use within your facility to increase excitement over the mission.

For more ideas, read How Facility Managers Can Encourage Better Hand Hygiene, which discusses ways to promote proper handwashing in your facility to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Also check out Guiding Your Facility’s Approach to Infection Prevention, which can help you map out a plan via safer and more sustainable environmental cleaning.
