Step Up for OSHA’s Fall Safety Campaign

March 3, 2021

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is asking facility managers and building service providers whose employees work from ladders and scaffolds to participate in its eight annual National Stand-Down to Prevent Falls campaign on May 3-7.

The campaign encourages employers to provide safety demonstrations on fall protection equipment, conduct talks regarding fall-related hazards and safety policies, and promote the event by using the #StandDown4Safety hash tag on social media. OSHA developed the fall prevention campaign in partnership with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), National Occupational Research Agenda, and The Center for Construction Research and Training. Since 2014, this collaboration has helped train nearly 10 million workers on fall prevention.

“Workers suffer serious and fatal injuries from falls which has a devastating impact on families and businesses,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health James Frederick. “This important collaboration encourages employers to learn how to better control fall-related hazards and improve their safety and health programs.”

A campaign webpage offers a wide range of fall safety resources, including fact sheets, posters, and guides outlining the safe use of extension ladders, stepladders, and scaffolds.
