Survey Says: Talk to Employees About Their Future

March 20, 2019

Hanging on to employees for the long haul is a prominent issue in the cleaning industry. In fact, 53 percent of surveyed building service contractors say to a large extent, recruiting and retaining staff is a challenge in their organizations.

With this in mind, cleaning industry professionals need to find ways to convince their staff to stay on board, especially in a job market where the competition is fierce. The solution, according to a recent Gallup study, may be right at manager fingertips.

“Over half of exiting employees say that in the three months before they left, neither their manager nor any other leader spoke with them about their job satisfaction or future with the organization,” Gallup reported. “Nobody asked them how they felt about their job. Nobody talked about their future. So it makes sense that they decided they didn’t have one there.”

For managers looking to turn this trend around, Gallup recommends having frequent and meaningful conversations with employees about challenges and goals they face in their position.
