UMF|PerfectCLEAN Announces First Annual Education Hygiene Specialist Excellence Award Recipient

May 15, 2023

Ana Ruth Morales-Garcia has been named the recipient of the UMF|PerfectCLEAN Education Hygiene Specialist Excellence Award.

The inaugural awards program highlights the contributions of janitorial staff at K–12 schools, colleges, and universities across the United States. Modeled on UMF’s Hygiene Specialist Award and Guest Room Attendant Excellence Award, this new award recognizes the crucial role school custodial staff play in providing a safe, hygienic environment for students, teachers, and co-workers.

Morales-Garcia, a custodian at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, was nominated for her efforts at the school’s student health center. As the winner of this year’s award, Morales-Garcia will receive an all-expenses paid trip for two, including airfare, to a location of her choice within the 48 contiguous states.

“Education hygiene specialists such as Ana Ruth are crucial to providing safe and healthy school environments,” said George Clarke, UMF CEO. “They’re an integral part of the school ecosystem, and UMF is committed to recognizing and celebrating this dedicated group of individuals. The Education Hygiene Specialist Excellence Award is one way to do just that. We are proud to acknowledge Ana Ruth as our first Education Hygiene Specialist Excellence Award recipient.”
