Workers Say Train Operator Is Skimping on Restroom Supplies

October 29, 2019

Union transportation workers claim the Scottish train operator ScotRail is cutting back on restroom supplies, such as toilet paper and soap, to maximize its profits, according to the European Cleaning Journal.

Members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers say the trains will have to close passenger lavatories more frequently when supplies run out. This will negatively impact passenger comfort and health.

Abellio Scotland, which is running the ScotRail franchise, denies the claim and maintains the organization would not benefit from skimping on restroom supplies, as it would be fined if it did not meet standards for cleanliness and passenger comfort.
