A green building environment can make employees healthy, happy, productive, and can even attract potential hires, according to new studies.
Factors such as clean air and water, low pollution, and energy efficiency in a work environment increases employee cognitive function, health, sleep quality, and problem-solving abilities. This translates to an efficient and productive workforce, according to Harvard University and the State University of New York Upstate Medical University.
“Good companies know the value of providing a healthy workspace,” said Joe Allen, assistant professor at Harvard University’s School of Public Health and co-author of the study. “Healthy buildings are a recruiting tool, after all.”
