South Carolina Hotel Achieves LEED Certification

The first hotel in the Charleston, SC, area received certification by the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) on March 20.

The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina in Mount Pleasant, SC, was granted LEED certification for its efforts in energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, water conservation, and sustainable site development, according to a report from ProudGreenBuilding.com. Whole Buildings Systems, a Charleston-based energy efficiency engineering firm, assisted the hotel in receiving LEED certification through consulting and commissioned services.

“The Beach Club serves as a prime example of how the work of innovative building projects can use local solutions to make the global impact on the environment,” Mahesh Ramanujam, USGBC president and CEO.
