CMM Weekly Recap—August 16, 2019

August 16, 2019

School custodians claimed the spotlight this week with one cleaning professional rising in the ranks in California. Dr. Reyes Guana was named superintendent of Byron Union School District in Byron, Calif. More than two decades earlier, he began his career in the district as a custodian.

Michigan custodian Andrea Smith was elated to receive a new car from the community of Doherty Elementary School. Smith had been walking more than nine miles each way to her job. When faculty heard of her dedication, they started a GoFundMe page to purchase her a new vehicle, making her commute much easier.

Summer vacations weren’t that pleasant for everyone this year as a Carnival Cruise Line ship recently achieved a historically low inspection rating from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Carnival Fantasy was cited for a variety of infractions, including inadequate food safety procedures.

Back-to-school season is starting up already this week. Where has the summer gone?
