ISSA Launches Tax Credit Campaign to Fund Cleaning

ISSA has launched its Clean Start: Back to Work Tax Credit advocacy campaign. The Clean Start: Back to Work Tax Credit would create a refundable tax credit to incentivize businesses to properly clean and disinfect their facilities when current “stay-at-home” restrictions are lifted, as well as to help prevent further infections.
 
There is significant research demonstrating the novel coronavirus can survive on surfaces for days unless properly cleaned and disinfected. As a result, the combination of properly trained and certified cleaning personnel and products are critical in helping to prevent the further spread of this virus once businesses are permitted to reopen.

Unfortunately, many businesses lack the expertise, products, or trained personnel to properly disinfect for coronavirus and other viruses. The Clean Start tax credit would help businesses ensure they provide a safe and sanitary environment for their workers and customers by providing a tax credit for businesses to train their existing staff on proper disinfection techniques, hire a certified professional cleaning company, and/or buy necessary cleaning products and equipment.

ISSA is working diligently to support the full-spectrum of the cleaning industry in the United States and the world during the COVID-19 emergency. The association engaged in discussions with White House officials to maintain a strong supply chain for critical supplies in the face of this crisis. We urged the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as well as the governors of all 50 states and U.S territories to recognize the cleaning industry as essential as they consider potential restrictions to business operations. Additionally, ISSA called on the U.S. Department of Labor to broadly apply paid leave exemptions for small businesses during this challenging time.
