The CMM Building Service Contractor (BSC) / Contract Cleaning Benchmarking Survey Report is an annual tool to help your business gauge its performance in the current economic climate.
You can use the report to see how your operation stacks up to others, discover industry trends, or determine if your projected growth is on par.
New questions looked at customer requirements for BSCs to report their environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) efforts, and whether BSCs have leveraged these ESG efforts to recruit customers or employees. Survey answers revealed these are not yet common practices.
A question asked every year reveals BSCs still list restrooms as the top cause of customer complaints; 35% of survey respondents listed it as their No. 1 customer complaint, compared to 42% in 2021 and 44% in 2020. However, in 2022 hard floor surfaces are close behind in terms of customer complaints, rising to 27% compared to 15% in 2021 and 13% in 2020.
Recruiting and retaining staff is still the biggest business challenge for BSCs, with 64% of survey respondents listing it as a challenge that pertains to their business to a large extent, compared to 63% in 2021 and 50% in 2020. Maintaining profitable margins and winning new bids / contracts remain the next most common business challenges, just as they did in the previous two surveys.
