Custodial Services Company Will Pay Employees Back Wages Due to Overtime Violations

Shoreline Building Services LLC—a custodial services company based in St. Joseph, Michigan—will be paying 11 employees US$10,000 in back wages and damages for overtime violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, WSJM-Radio reports.

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Michigan found the company had violated the Fair Labor Standards Act “by not paying employees overtime when they worked more than 40 hours in a week,” according to WSJM. The company had instead “paid overtime based upon a two-week or longer pay period” which was calculated incorrectly “for employees who worked in multiple positions at different” pay rates during a period.

Additional violations reported included “failing to record or pay for time employees spent traveling between work sites during the workday.”
