In this episode of Straight Talk!, sponsored by PDI, we dive into a groundbreaking new study from Dr. Donskey and the Cleveland VA Medical Center’s Research and Development Committee.
The study, published on Oct. 22, reveals alarming issues with automated disinfectant dispensers in 10 hospitals, showing that 90% of the hospitals had at least one malfunctioning dispenser, and a significant portion were delivering incorrect disinfectant concentrations.
Out of 107 systems, 27.1% dispensed disinfectant at lower-than-expected concentrations, while 14% released no disinfectant at all. These findings underscore the importance of regular monitoring to maintain effective disinfection practices. The study suggests that health care facilities could benefit from enhanced monitoring protocols to ensure that these automated systems reliably deliver safe, effective disinfectant concentrations.
Julie Nakos, Director of National Accounts, JanSan/EVS, at PDI, shares expert details and discusses the causes of these malfunctions, the risks to infection control, and the steps hospitals can take to ensure disinfectants are properly dispensed to protect patients.
